PRINCE2 Overview

PRINCE2 stands for PRojects IN Controlled Environments 2 and is based upon the following seven principles:

  1. Continued business justification
  2. Learn from experience
  3. Defined roles and experience
  4. Manage by stages
  5. Manage by exception
  6. Focus on products
  7. Tailor to suite the project environment

Themes are aspects of PRINCE2 projects that must be addressed continually. These themes are:

  1. Business case
  2. Organization
  3. Quality
  4. Plans
  5. Risk
  6. Change
  7. Progress

The main stages of a project are:

  1. Starting up a Project
  2. Initiating a Project
  3. Directing a Project
  4. Managing a Stage Boundary
  5. Controlling a Stage
  6. Closing a Project
  7. Managing Product Delivery

If you would like to know more about PRINCE2, I recommend the book: Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2: 2009 Edition that I used as part of my PRINCE2 Foundation Plus Practioner course. This book provided everything I needed to pass the exams.
